The Dandelion, The Witch and the Web Drove
apr 2009  |  The Diary of jonathan harker   |  ghostly tale

High in the hills where I find myself walking, traversing moor, hill and vale, there are the unmistakable symbols of witchcraft. After all this is witch country. You only need to take a closer look at the bankside hawthorn and you will see a woven talisman made from soft pliable shrubbery, hanging within the heart of the tree. Whether strange glyphs etched, scratched and daubed alert you to a mysterious language they still managed to send a chill on even the hottest of days.

I am taking this path to meet up with Gwyneth, a Welsh Witch, who has settled in Lancashire. She lives in a delightful stone cottage with small sash windows, a barn door with bull’s eye glass panel and an assortment of utensils scattered outside filled with herbs, flowers and dried out flora and fauna.

Around this peaceful fold in the hill, Gwyneth’s small holding produces strange music from the home made wind chimes, strange windpipes and other crafted instruments. Moreover, it does create a magical enchantment. You feel compelled to stay and rest unaware of nature’s fickle hand of fate here on the moor, storms, winds and needle sharp rain, can come upon you suddenly.

Gwyneth, no doubt hanged a witch, in days when treating an open wound with lavender was a prescription for the gallows.

Yes, this is a 21st century witch having lived many lifetimes and always ahead of her peers, she has embraced the wonders of the internet. Offering opinions, spells, lotions and potions, Gwyneth, needs no broomstick to get about, merely her laptop and those good people at daily.co.uk

I looked around Gwyneth’s coven, as she likes to call her office. Around me, parcels, packages, letters, active spells ready for the post. I had a long chat, plenty to drink and relished the company from such an energetic soul.

Setting out on my journey home I had to roar laughing. For Gwyneth revealed the real reason I suspect for her web spells internet site. She said to me after one too many dandelion and burdock, she had said it all helps to supplement the pension. This entire credit crunch is hitting us witches you know.

So in Gwyneth words reader, get yourself a website and tell the world something about yourself, your hobby, pastime, life, skills, talents, inform and educate, talk, write, show, make money and survive the credit crunch. Above all express your unique individuality and as I promised Gwyneth, here is the link to those wizards at Daily.co.uk who can help you sort it all out.

A collection of ghostly tales

The Jonathan Harker Diary is a collection of short stories, ghost tales and day to day experiences. Of course nothing is what it seems here in the ghostly world of Jonathan Harker, but amongst the strange and bizarre there are lighter moments which I shall write and share and sincerely hope you enjoy.

I was trapped in a car with a ghost... We agreed to a game of death!
